Police Oracle has launched a major new programme to form part of its 2027 full subscriber benefits offer.  From January 2027 subscribers will have access to a structured 12-month programme comprising 24 half-day masterclasses covering four key rank transitions:

  • Constable to Sergeant
  • Sergeant to Inspector
  • Inspector and Chief Inspector to Superintendent
  • Superintendent and Chief Superintendent to Assistant Chief Constable

The programme has been commissioned specifically to support the community of officers accessing Police Oracle through the PDS-funded subscription offer and will be delivered by the leading police promotion and leadership development provider Practice to Progress (P2P).

The 2026 programme has provided 1,950 NIE and NPPF examination support places; more than 100 officers have joined the promotion board mock interview programme, and over 15,000 officers and staff have engaged with webinars, eLearning and digital training resources.

The promotion support programme is one of four new programmes which are being released in 2027.

In the coming weeks subscribers will receive details on three further programmes set out below.

  • How to be an effective sergeant
  • How to be an effective Inspector
  • How to be an effective Police Staff leader

Preparing for promotion, and for the rank that follows

Most officers who fall short at a promotion board do not fall short because they cannot do the job. They fall short because nobody has shown them how to evidence it. The sift wants strong, well-chosen CVF examples. The board wants structure; composure and a clear sense of what leadership looks like at the next rank. These are skills, and like any skill they can be learnt and practised.

That is the thinking behind the 12-month programme Practice to Progress (P2P) is delivering for Police Oracle subscribers.

The programme will combine promotion preparation with practical leadership development.

Each rank transition will include masterclasses focusing on:

  • Promotion processes and CVF evidence – helping candidates understand the promotion process and identify and structure strong evidence against the Competency and Values Framework.

  • Interview and assessment performance – covering structured responses, presentations, scenarios and the leadership behaviours assessors expect to see at the next rank.

  • Leadership development– including sessions on the first 100 days following promotion and decision-making under pressure.

The programme will be aligned to the Competency and Values Framework updated in 2024 and delivered live online, allowing officers and staff to participate regardless of where they are based.

The programme commences in January.  To find out more and sign-up Click Here

Experienced promotion specialists

Practice to Progress was founded by former Chief and Senior Police Officers and has supported more than 8,500 individuals, from Constable through to Chief Constable.

The organisation has worked with 35 police forces on local and national promotion, selection and leadership processes.

Its team includes trained and accredited College of Policing assessors across CVF Levels 1, 2 and 3, with experience both designing and assessing police selection processes.

According to Practice to Progress, an independent six-month evaluation commissioned by a large police force and undertaken by a Cambridge University academic found that candidates using its support were up to 78% more likely to succeed in their selection processes.

Police Oracle subscribers attending the masterclasses will also receive additional Practice to Progress benefits.
