About the Role

Red Snapper Recruitment is recruiting for a Cyber Security Engineer to join the ICT & Digital Transformation team of a leading housing organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled cyber security professional to help protect critical systems, data and services while supporting the development of a strong security culture across the organisation.

Working as part of the Cloud Infrastructure and Security team, you will provide technical leadership across security monitoring, threat detection and incident response. You will work closely with ICT colleagues, project teams and external partners to embed security best practice into everyday operations and future technology developments.

The role offers a varied mix of hands-on security engineering, vulnerability management, cloud security and cyber governance, with the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the organisation’s security and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across security monitoring, threat detection and incident response.

  • Lead vulnerability management, patching and endpoint security improvements.

  • Support the detection, investigation, response and recovery of security incidents.

  • Influence secure network, cloud and endpoint design across technology projects and infrastructure changes.

  • Work with ICT colleagues and external partners to implement effective security controls and best practice.

  • Support cyber security governance, reporting, audits and compliance assurance.

  • Identify and communicate security risks, translating technical issues into clear business impacts.

  • Promote cyber security awareness and help develop a strong security culture across the organisation.

About You

You will be a proactive and technically capable cyber security professional with practical experience in security engineering and a strong understanding of enterprise security technologies.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Hands-on experience in cyber security or security engineering.

  • Strong understanding of enterprise security technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint detection and response (EDR), SIEM, Microsoft Defender and vulnerability management tools.

  • Experience working with security incident detection, response and recovery.

  • Confidence working with cloud environments, ideally Microsoft Azure.

  • Ability to assess security risks and explain their potential business impact to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, solve problems effectively and build trusted relationships with colleagues and senior stakeholders.

Qualifications and professional development

Relevant cyber security certifications would be highly desirable, including:

  • Microsoft SC-200

  • Microsoft SC-300

  • Microsoft AZ-500

  • Microsoft SC-100

  • ISC2 SSCP, CCSP or CISSP

If you do not currently hold one of these certifications, you will be expected to achieve at least one within the first 12 months of starting the role.

Location and Working Arrangements

The contractual base will be agreed with the successful candidate at one of the organisation’s main offices in Gosforth or Stanley.

Due to the nature of the role, regular office attendance throughout the week is required, alongside hybrid working arrangements. Applicants must therefore live within a commutable distance of their agreed office location.

Regular travel to other offices across the North East will also be required.

Benefits

The organisation offers a generous benefits package, including:

  • 26 days annual leave, increasing to 31 days after three years of service.

  • Birthday leave.

  • Occupational pension scheme.

  • Health cash plan.

  • Flexible benefits pot.

  • Funding opportunities for professional qualifications, conferences and learning events.
