Probation Service Officer – Willesden Magistrates Court (2573B)

About the role

This is a temporary contract for an initial 12-month period, based at Willesden Magistrates’ Court. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting court processes through the delivery of high-quality risk assessments and reports.

You will be responsible for producing both short format and full court reports (oral and written), ensuring they meet strict deadlines and national standards.

The post is paying

  • £17.19 per hour PAYE
  • £22.63 per hour Umbrella

Overview of the Role

As a Report Writer (Probation Services Officer), you will work within the Probation Service to assess offenders and provide the courts with accurate, timely, and professional reports to inform sentencing decisions.

This is a fast-paced, court-based role requiring strong analytical skills, excellent written communication, and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interviewing offenders to gather relevant information
  • Conducting risk assessments using approved tools (e.g. OASys, RSR, SARA where required)
  • Preparing and delivering written and oral court reports within required timescales (same day or within 5 days)
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records
  • Using probation systems such as NDelius and OASys
  • Ensuring all work complies with National Standards and current legislation
  • Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of work
  • Undertaking additional duties appropriate to the role as required

Person Specification

  • NVQ Level 3 in Criminal Justice (Probation Services Officer level) or minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade C/4 and above) including English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Experience working for a recognised provider of probation services within the last 5 years
  • At least 12 months’ experience working with people on probation
  • Experience of risk assessment and risk management, including OASys and RSR
  • Proven experience of writing detailed court reports to strict deadlines and quality standards
  • Experience using probation systems such as NDelius and OASys
  • Strong understanding of the Criminal Justice System, Probation Service, and relevant legislation
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to work flexibly, including weekends where required
