Probation Officer – HMP Parc (2565B)

About the role

This is a part-time opportunity (18.5 hours per week) on a 12-week temporary contract, based at HMP Parc.

The successful candidate will work as a qualified Probation Officer, supporting the management and rehabilitation of individuals within a custodial setting. This is a varied role requiring strong assessment skills, the ability to manage risk, and experience delivering interventions to reduce reoffending.

The post is paying

  • £21.75 per hour PAYE
  • £28.64 per hour Umbrella

Overview of the Role

As a Probation Officer, you will work directly with individuals in custody and support wider offender management functions. The role includes responsibilities across offender supervision, programme delivery, report writing, and multi-agency collaboration.

You will play a key role in assessing risk, supporting behavioural change, and contributing to safer communities through effective offender management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with people in custody to analyse and address behaviour
  • Assessing offender needs and risks using tools such as OASys, RSR, and SARA
  • Preparing and delivering reports (Parole reports)
  • Managing the risk of serious harm and contributing to risk management plans
  • Maintaining accurate and timely case records using NDelius and OASys
  • Delivering and leading accredited programmes (e.g. BBR, TSP) in line with programme manuals
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal teams and external agencies

Person Specification

  • A recognised Probation Officer qualification (PQF Graduate Diploma/ Honours Degree in Community Justice with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice, or equivalent recognised qualification)
  • Experience working within a recognised provider of probation services within the last 5 years
  • Experience working with individuals on probation or vulnerable individuals with complex needs
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment and management, including OASys, RSR, and SARA
  • Experience writing detailed reports to strict deadlines (including Court and Parole reports)
  • Experience delivering accredited programmes such as BBR or TSP
  • Experience working with multi-agency partners and making effective referrals
  • Working knowledge of MAPPA arrangements
  • Experience using NDelius and OASys systems
  • Understanding of Health & Safety legislation
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to travel as required across operational settings
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, Probation Service, and current legislation
