Domestic Abuse Early Responder

RSR Justice are currently looking for a Domestic Abuse Early Responder on behalf of St Giles Trust (SGT).

The successful candidate will be engaging with DA Perpetrators in Police Custody as part of the reachable/ teachable moment service delivery to discuss their offending behaviour.

They will signpost/support DA offenders in areas such as housing, finances, substance misuse, mental health, training, employment, and family matters to deter the offender away from DA offending.

This is a full time, FTC position from: September 2024 – March 2025 based in West Midlands Oldbury Custody Suite and offers a salary of £27,000 – £28,500 (experience dependant)

Main Duties:

  • To engage with offenders in police custody once they have been identified as being perpetrators of domestic abuse.
  • Each case worker will have responsibility to build positive relationships and work directly with the offender in custody to promote positive change, build resilience, reduce risks, and prevent further harm through DA offending.
  • To produce DA offender risk management plans based on assessments.
  • To ensure that the DA perpetrator understands the consequences of their DA offending behaviour and works towards accepting responsibility for their actions and is working to positively change their offending behaviour.
  • To work in close collaboration with the West Midlands DA Victim Support Workers to set out the building blocks for an enhanced system that will aim to prevent domestic abuse from happening in the first place, deliver better outcomes for victims and survivors, and ensure that perpetrators understand that it is they who need to change their behaviour not the victim
  • To follow the aims set out in the tackling domestic abuse plan regarding pursing perpetrators.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience of working with perpetrators or victims of Domestic Abuse
  • Experience of working with offenders
  • Experience of completing risk assessments and safeguarding victims, children, and families
  • Experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and the ability to assess clients’ needs
  • Experience of engaging successfully with challenging people, for example people who have complex needs, people who are reluctant to discuss their needs, and people who perpetrate offending behaviour

You will be required to undergo HMPPS vetting in order to undertake this role. Vetting can take up to six weeks to be processed.
