About the role
We are seeking qualified and experienced Probation Officers to support delivery across a range of settings including community, courts, prisons and Approved Premises.
These roles offer the opportunity to work flexibly across the Probation Service, supporting individuals to reduce reoffending, manage risk and promote positive behavioural change.
- £19.90 – £31.53 per hour (depending on experience and payment method)
- 12-week contract
- Full-time hours (37 per week)
- Locations: Nationwide across the Probation Service estate
- Flexible working patterns may be available depending on assignment
Overview of the Role
As a Probation Officer, you will work with people on probation to assess risk, manage behaviour and support rehabilitation.
You may be deployed across a variety of functions including community offender management, court work, programme delivery or Approved Premises, depending on service need.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of people on probation, supporting behaviour change and reducing reoffending
- Conduct risk and needs assessments using tools such as OASys, SARA and RSR
- Prepare and deliver court and parole reports to required standards and deadlines
- Maintain accurate records using systems such as NDelius and OASys
- Deliver and support accredited programmes (e.g. BBR, TSP) where required
- Work collaboratively with criminal justice partners including courts, prisons, interventions teams and external agencies
- Contribute to risk management processes, including MAPPA where applicable
- Support and mentor colleagues or contribute to operational learning where appropriate
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all areas of work
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- A recognised Probation Officer qualification (PQF, Diploma in Probation Studies, Social Work with Probation Option, CQSW or equivalent)
- Recent experience working within a recognised probation service (within the last 5 years)
- Experience working with people on probation or vulnerable individuals with complex needs
- Knowledge and experience of risk assessment tools including OASys, SARA and RSR
- Experience of writing detailed reports (including court and parole reports) to strict deadlines
- Experience using NDelius and OASys systems effectively
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, legislation and National Standards
- Ability to travel and work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends
