Red Snapper Justice are part of a niche recruitment agency, who provide staffing services to the offender management and criminal justice sectors.

We are recruiting on behalf of our Dudley based client looking for Accident and Emergency (A&E) Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to provide a high quality service to victims of domestic abuse and other interpersonal violence (rape and sexual violence, child sexual exploitation, honour based violence, forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM)) accessing Accident & Emergency Services.

This is a Fulltime, Temporary to Permanent post with a competitive salary offered £22,934 - £24,174.

Main Duties:

  • Provide an effective, consistent presence in A&E to advocate for the service and improve the response to victims of interpersonal violence, by supporting, empowering and training clinical staff to identify signs of abuse and ask screening questions.
  • Working collectively as a team with A&E staff, to offer a safe space where support is provided and choices are offered for immediate safeguarding.
  • To provide on-the-spot advice, support and safety planning to victims of abuse and violence at the point of crisis in A&E.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments with victims of abuse and where needed make referrals to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • To be fully compliant and remain up to date with policies and procedures, local and regional operational protocols and national legislation.
  • To attend all meetings and training as required, attend monthly supervision sessions and appraisals.
  • To participate in the performance management processes within agreed timescales, providing robust outcomes and evaluation reports on progress within the role.
  • To ensure effective communication across all services and ensure that the service manager is informed at all times of any issues that impact effective service delivery.
  • Active involvement to help improve data capture within A&E, ensuring that patients attending due to domestic abuse (and other interpersonal violence) issues are accurately identified and recorded as such, to improve the visibility of the issues and quality of information.
  • Attend health review meetings to exchange information on exit pathways from A&E into other health services, auditing outcomes, identifying gaps in support/missed opportunities e.g. where a victims’ coping strategies could have been picked up at GP stage, before escalation to A&E level.

Essential Requirements:

  • IDVA qualification and/or direct experience of working in domestic/sexual violence.
  • Qualification or training equivalent to minimum level 3 education standard in a relevant topic, such as health and social care.
  • Demonstrable ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Teams), databases and other virtual platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation development.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults and children, acknowledging safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately.
  • Experience of managing complex casework, including issues such as child abuse, mental health, substance abuse, working with immediate trauma in adults and children and crisis intervention.
  • Have knowledge and experience of applying of health and safety, GDPR compliance and management.

An enhanced DBS will be required for this role.
