RSR Regulatory Services are currently recruiting for a Policy Associate for a financial regulator based in London. This a is a full time, permanent role paying £49,288.

Overview

The Project Associate – Competition Policy role sits in the Audit & Assurance policy team in the FRC’s Regulatory Standards Division. The team includes staff who lead on the development of competition policy for the audit market, in response to recommendations from reviews by Sir John Kingman and the Competition and Markets Authority. The Government recently published its plans for reform following these reviews: Restoring trust in audit and corporate governance Government response to the consultation on strengthening the UK’s audit, corporate reporting and corporate governance systems (May 2022). The plans include the FRC becoming a new regulator (ARGA) with a wider set of responsibilities, including to be a ‘system leader’ for local public audit, and measures to improve competition and choice in the audit market.

The role is based in our Central London Office. The post holder should be able to work flexibly to support the team’s activities and also provide cover within the FRC as necessary. From 6 September 2021 FRC has been operating a hybrid working arrangement with its workforce. The guidance is to work from the office for at least four days each fortnight with precise arrangements to be agreed between the employee and the line manager.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the development of the competition policy;
• Supporting the development of powers in relation to competition policy;
• Engaging with stakeholders including in the audit sector, wider regulatory sphere and BEIS to evolve and implement competition policy; and
• Monitoring and reporting on competition in the audit market.

Skills required

• A relevant degree and/or professional qualifications, as well as experience working in a policy development, regulatory, professional services and/or business analysis environment.
• Experience in competition policy and analytical work, including for example in regulatory projects such as market studies, market investigations, actions and appeals or similar.
• An understanding of the wider UK competition and regulatory landscape, including concurrency regulation and the legal framework.
• An awareness of audit including of the Government’s plans for reform.
• Determination and self-motivation including to learn quickly about new topics and pursue matters.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Strong project and time management skills.
• Excellent IT skills (particularly Excel and Word).
