We are currently recruiting for an Audit Inspections Leader to join an Independent Regulator. The regulators mission is to serve the public interest by setting high standards of corporate governance, reporting and audit.

This a full time permanent position paying £103,424 per annum plus benefits to include 30 days holiday.

The role is based in the regulators Audit Quality Review (AQR) team that monitors the quality of the audit work of statutory auditors and audit firms in the UK that audit Public Interest Entities (PIEs) and certain other entities within the scope retained by the regulator.

The Audit Inspections Leader will lead and manage audit inspection work at the challenger firms within the AQR scope, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and within specified deadlines.  You will build constructive and professional relationships with the audit firm’s senior management and audit teams and manage AQR’s relationship with the relevant audit firms at a senior level on a day-to-day basis.

Successful applicants will need to demonstrate significant experience at a senior level in the audit of public interest entities, together with experience of audit inspections.

Transferable Skills

  •  Strong technical auditing and accounting skills;
  • Ability to challenge the judgements and quality of work performed by engagement partners at the audit firms and to deal with difficult situations in a sensitive manner, often in meetings where the AQR team is in the minority;
  •  Good understanding of the particular challenges faced by smaller firms operating in the PIE market;
  • Strong communication skills, relating to both the drafting of reports and the presentation of inspection findings in a calm, firm and convincing way.
  • Ability to quickly develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Effective project and time management skills to organise the overall challenger firm audit inspection programme and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Ability to persuade senior personnel to accept and act on points raised.
  • Identify issues of non-compliance with the regulatory framework, including Auditing, Ethical and Quality Control Standards and Audit Regulations
  •  Input to the preparation of public reports. Discuss findings internally and with the audit firms; agree action plans with the audit firms to address the issues raised.
