Are you a HOLMES-trained professional ready to support a live, high-profile major crime investigation?

We’re urgently recruiting HOLMES Reader/Receivers to join Derbyshire Police’s Major Crime Team, supporting a murder enquiry, this is a critical role in one of the UK’s most complex and active investigations.

Role Overview:

As a HOLMES Reader/Receiver, you will work in the heart of the Major Incident Room (MIR), handling, assessing, and indexing key documents and information using the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System (HOLMES). You will ensure information is prioritised, recorded, and actioned in support of fast-paced investigative demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive & assess incoming documentation, determining relevance and security classification

  • Input and index data into HOLMES, ensuring accurate and searchable records

  • Support investigative activity by identifying key information and raising relevant actions

  • Retrieve and generate reports to assist with investigation updates and strategy

  • Ensure compliance with data protection, security protocols, and legal requirements

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the MIR, including Indexers, Analysts, and SIOs

  • Maintain accuracy and pace under pressure in a live investigation environment

Essential Requirements:

  • HOLMES certification – full training required

  • Prior experience in a Reader/Receiver or similar HOLMES-based role

  • Strong understanding of major crime investigations and the HOLMES environment

  • Proven analytical and research skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Meticulous attention to detail and data integrity

  • Confident user of IT systems, including HOLMES and Microsoft Office

  • Familiarity with data protection and information security standards

Vetting Requirement:

Candidates must hold valid NPPV3 or SC vetting, issued by a UK police force within the last 12 months. Submissions without appropriate vetting details cannot be considered.

Location:

Based in Derbyshire, working directly within a major incident room on a live investigation

Contract & Pay:

  • 12-week contract initially – very likely to extend given the scope of the operation

  • Pay: from £18-£21/hr (rate flexible depending on experience)
