Are you a trained HOLMES professional ready to support a large-scale, high-profile criminal investigation?

We are urgently seeking experienced HOLMES Indexers to join Derbyshire Police’s Major Crime Team, assisting with a significant murder enquiry. This is a critical role supporting a dynamic and fast-moving investigation.

Role Overview:

As a HOLMES Indexer, you’ll be working within a major incident room, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and organisation of information stored in the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System (HOLMES). Your work will directly support Senior Investigating Officers and other team members in progressing complex enquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and register documentation related to the investigation into HOLMES

  • Index content from documents into searchable categories (e.g. people, locations, exhibits)

  • Maintain the system’s integrity, ensuring accurate and complete indices

  • Raise and track actions within HOLMES for investigators to follow up

  • Retrieve critical information from the system as requested by the investigation team

  • Attend briefings, understand investigation updates, and support case strategy

  • Support Senior Investigating Officers and maintain high data standards

  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends if required

Essential Requirements:

  • HOLMES trained (certified and active)

  • Recent hands-on experience working as a HOLMES Indexer

  • Strong IT literacy and confidence working with complex systems and databases

  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and time management

  • Effective written and verbal communication

  • Proven ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities

  • A strong team player who understands the importance of confidentiality and discretion

Vetting Requirement:

You must hold valid NPPV3 or SC clearance issued by a UK police force within the last 12 months. Submissions without valid vetting will not be considered.

Location:

Based in Derbyshire, supporting an active and evolving major crime investigation

Contract & Pay:

  • 12-week initial contract, likely to be extended depending on performance and operational need

  • Pay: from £18-£21/hr, depending on experience
