We are recruiting an experienced Exhibits Officer to join a Major Incident Room in support of a high-profile murder investigation. This is a crucial opportunity to contribute to a live and complex investigation led by Derbyshire Police, involving multiple arrests and extensive forensic evidence handling.
As a HOLMES Exhibits Officer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of all exhibits – physical and digital – in line with police procedures and legal frameworks. You will also take a lead role in disclosure, working closely with legal teams to ensure full compliance with the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA).
Exhibit Management:
Receive, record, package, and manage exhibits securely, including forensic material
Maintain chain of custody and continuity for all evidential items
Advise officers on best practice for handling and submitting exhibits
Prepare exhibits for court presentation and support archiving/disposal post-case
Accurately log and manage all material via the HOLMES system
Disclosure Duties:
Identify unused material and prepare disclosure schedules
Liaise with CPS and legal representatives on disclosure issues
Handle sensitive material ethically and lawfully in line with CPIA obligations
General Support:
Provide exhibit management support to the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO)
Attend court as needed to give evidence on exhibit handling
Collaborate with forensic providers, scientific support, and other departments
Maintain comprehensive records and comply with all force policies and procedures
Background in an investigative policing or law enforcement role
Knowledge of HOLMES and Major Incident Room (MIR) processes
Strong working knowledge of CPIA, PACE, and forensic protocols
Proven experience in exhibit handling, disclosure preparation, and evidential continuity
Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and record-keeping
Able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities with composure
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills
A high level of discretion and integrity when handling sensitive material
Applicants must hold valid NPPV3 or SC vetting, issued by a UK police force within the last 12 months. We are unable to consider candidates without active vetting.
Based in Derbyshire, within the Major Crime Team’s incident room
12-week initial contract, with strong potential for extension
Pay: £21–£23/hr, depending on experience (inside IR35)
