Join the Sheffield Probation Delivery Unit as an Agency Probation Officer
Red Snapper is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Qualified Probation Officer to join the Sheffield PDU on a 6-month temporary contract. This is an excellent opportunity to deliver high-quality offender management within a supportive team and make a meaningful contribution to public protection and rehabilitation.
Location: Sheffield, S1 4GE
Contract: Temporary – 6 months, with possibility of extension
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week although part-time applicants will be considered too
Pay: £21.75 PAYE or £28.64 Umbrella p/h
📍 Working Arrangements
The client has confirmed that fully remote working is not an option for this role.
However, they may consider candidates who can attend a local Probation Service office for several days per week.
➡️ Candidates based within commute distance of Sheffield are strongly preferred, as the ideal scenario is for the successful PO to work primarily on-site in Sheffield.
🔎 Key Responsibilities
As a Probation Officer, you will:

• Manage a caseload of individuals on probation, including risk assessments and sentence plans
• Use NDelius and relevant assessment tools (e.g., OASys) to record, assess, and monitor cases
• Deliver interventions and enforce compliance with court orders
• Work collaboratively with partner agencies to support rehabilitation
• Contribute to MAPPA, risk reviews, and safeguarding activity
• Make risk-led decisions to protect the public and support positive outcomes

✔ Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must:

• Hold the Probation Officer qualification (DipPS, PQF, PQUIP or equivalent)
• Have recent experience in offender management within the Probation Service
• Be confident using NDelius, OASys, and other probation tools
• Be able to work on-site in Sheffield (or a local office for part of the week if agreed)
• Demonstrate strong risk assessment, communication, and decision-making skills
